Big Data Meets Thick Data: Intersections in Data and Social sciences

  • Feminist HCI : Inquiry into the digital formats of ’right-wing’ Feminism
  • Immersive HCI: Social Interactions in VR
  • Ethnographic Enquiry into Digital Wallets
  • Longitudinal analysis of Political Behaviors on Indian online platforms

One of the examples from above is our study and a qualitative experiment about ‘Virtual Reality dating ’ that has evolved as a powerful, embedded and immersive technology medium to transform dating experiences. Our research aims to push the discourse on social interaction further by analyzing the dynamics of romantic reciprocality in a fully immersive VR application. Our study finds VR allowing users to efficiently and effectively ‘gauge’ matches resulting in well informed decisions to meet (or not) virtual partners ’IRL’ or in real life than existing chat-based mediums like Tinder. We believe this leads to improved experience of first dates
