Research Scientist Program

IIIT Hyderabad is currently home to Senior Research Scientist (postdocs), PhD, MS by Research graduates and Undergraduate students who are self­starting, innovative and resourceful.

The institute prides itself in cultivating an environment for these high­quality students not only to develop their technical knowledge, but also to expand their creativity and grow to become the next leaders and innovators. The institute has an ambitious goal of scaling up the number of research scholars to 400 over the next few years. To attract researchers of the highest calibre, it is not only important to create the right academic environment for uninterrupted learning and research, but also be able to provide financial support to even more of these deserving students.

Under the mantle of the Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems (KCIS), a KCIS Research Scientist Program is being announced to attract the best­in­class students with a PhD background to pursue breakthrough research in Intelligent Systems. This position is equivalent to Postdoc Scholars with a mission to identify, nurture and advance the early development of research scientist.

Highlights of KCIS Research Scientist Program

• Program: Calling for full­time contractual applications for KCIS Research Scientist program for 2016
• Value: Maximum monthly pay structure of INR 100,000/­* with annual increments in each year of tenure. They are also eligible for all other HR benefits like Provident Fund (PF), Leave Travel Concession (LTC), Leave, etc.
• Duration: The applicant is expected to give a minimum commitment of 3 years
• Affiliation: While in residence, the research scientist will have affiliation to Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems (KCIS), IIIT Hyderabad

*Compensation for research scientist is governed by the entity providing funding and the candidate’s suitability. Therefore, it may vary from candidate to candisdate.

Research Areas

Applications will be considered in all subject areas related to Intelligent Systems, especially in the area of Language, Speech, Data Systems, Robotics, Cognitive Sciences, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Visual Imaging.

Eligibility to Qualify for the Fellowship

• PhD background
• Applying for a full­time postdoctoral teaching­research program
• Resident of India or willing to relocate to India for the duration of the research program
• Those already registered in other institutes or waiting to have their thesis examined for doctoral studies will be eligible
• Candidates with work experience who are now looking to pursue research in a challenging, stimulating and enriching milieu are also eligible to apply
• Should be able to demonstrate research and academic background relevant to the proposed area of research
• Should be an outstanding, innovative and highly motivated individual with high professional ethos

Responsibilities of Research Scientist

• The applicant will be working closely with eminent institute faculty to address pressing world needs through the process of discovery and research
• The candidate should be able to participate in grant proposals and contribute significantly to sustainable research solutions in collaboration with external partners
• Commitment to teach at least 1 full­time course in each academic semester
• Contribute to academic research papers, conferences, etc.
• They may also have additional responsibilities from time­to­time as identified by the funding source

Selection Criteria

• Applicants will be selected on an on­going basis throughout the year for the Research Scientist program
• Applications should display a thorough knowledge of the major concepts and methods in the applicant's discipline
• The research design of applications should be realistic in scope, clearly formulated and relevant to the area of Intelligent Systems
• Applicants should provide evidence of having attained an appropriate level of training to undertake the proposed research
• Selection will be based on top­of­class academic achievement, merit of application, suitability of the candidature and availability of position for the proposed Research Scientist program.
